Referee takes spinning heel kick to the face, continues refereeing

The build them tough in Canada.

IT’S NOT EASY being a referee.

It’s certainly not made easier when you receive a spinning heel kick to the face in the middle of the game.

But that’s what happened Ben Major – a former college player himself – who had his face cut open by the boot of Montreal Alouettes linebacker Kyries Hebert.

The collision – seemingly accidental – happened as Hebert was being blocked by Curtis Steele of the Toronto Argonauts.

It looks quite sore:

Fortunately for Major and all concerned, the veteran official did not suffer concussion and was able to officiate the entire second half but we still think the hit might leave a mark.

For what it’s worth, Toronto won 31-5.
